2016 Pinot Noir The Cauldron

The Cauldron:Protected from the wind, basking in warmth, feasting on deep soil tipped into the pot from the rocky slopes above, the vines of The Cauldron are the pampered children of Bethel Heights. In return, they give us tender, juicy, exuberant wines.

2016 Pinot Noir The Currents

The Currents: There is a certain place on the lower west side of our vineyard where subtle fluctuations of cool and warm air currents flow through the vines.  We feel them when we walk there in the summer, as if we were stepping into the sea, and we can taste them in this wine.

2016 Chardonnay The High Wire

The High Wire: The High Wire was long disparaged as the ugly duckling of the vineyard.  It stubbornly resisted all attempts to graft it over or re-train it into submission, and the ugly duckling ultimately grew into the regal long-necked swan that it was meant to be. 96 Pts, The Wine Advocate (the only wine from the set submitted for review)

2017 Pinot Noir Justice Vineyard

This is a wine of unexpected nuance and finesse, and in my opinion it is the best wine we’ve had from this vineyard to date. Winemaker, Ben Casteel

2017 Chardonnay Justice Vineyard

The Chardonnay from Justice Vineyard over the years has developed a haunting sea breeze, saline quality both in the aroma and on the palate that distinguishes it from every other Chardonnay in our portfolio. The wine’s freshness, purity, and unique fingerprint are framed by bright acidity and a crystalline structure, perhaps providing a window into the marine sedimentary soils where it is planted, soils that were once layers of sand on the floor of the ocean millions of years ago. 94 Points, James Suckling.  Read more about the 2017 Justice Chardonnay

2017 Chardonnay Casteel

2017 is one my favorite vintages of the past decade for its natural balance, elegance, and transparency. The 2017 Casteel Chardonnay exemplifies this as much or more than any Chardonnay in our portfolio, providing both the tension our site provides so well but also the generosity of a warm vintage. This wine is showing well now but will improve with age over the next 5-7 years.
94 Points James Suckling, 94 Points Wine Enthusiast. Read more about the 2017 Casteel Chardonnay.

2017 Chardonnay Estate

This wine includes fruit from each of our five different blocks of Chardonnay planted between 1977 and 1999, thus representing the most complete expression of our estate in each vintage. Our picking decisions favor tension and vibrancy over opulence and richness, as we believe this gives us the best expression of our sense of place. The wine was aged on the lees for 11 months with complete malolactic fermentation. 93 Points JamesSuckling.com, 92 Points Wine Enthusiast, Edtor's Choice, Read more about the 2017 Estate Chardonnay.

2018 Pinot Noir Casteel

The Casteel Pinot Noir is a blend of the best barrels from our vineyard, selected to express the epitome of that particular vintage at Bethel Heights. This is our only Pinot noir that carries our family name rather than a place name, which gives us considerable poetic license to select our favorite barrels from each vintage. 95 Points Vinous. 2018 Pinot Noir Southeast Block

The Southeast Block has always been defined by mutability; from the grace and purity that defined the ‘90s to the power and structure that became the norm in the ‘00s, it has resisted clear definition. The 2018 is a dense, imposing wine in its youth that speaks both to the character of the vintage and to the brooding, black fruited character that has been the norm for the past few years with the exception of 2017. Winemaker, Ben Casteel

2018 Pinot Noir West Block

Our forty-year-old Wädenswil vines are massive by current standards, standing three feet of gnarled and twisted wood, yet they continue to produce the most poised, electric wines in our portfolio, their structure defined more by acidity than tannin. The 2018 West Block is a wine outside the characteristics of the vintage, eschewing structure for vibrancy. Winemaker, Ben Casteel

2019 Pinot Gris

Our last vintage of Pinot gris.  In 2020 we grafted Pinot noir onto the 3.3 acre block of Pinot Gris. For this final vintage,  the grapes were sorted and whole cluster pressed for four hours at low pressure under a constant blanket of carbon dioxide. The juice was settled for 72 hours, then racked to a jacketed stainless steel tank. The juice fermented cold for one month and was finished without malolactic fermentation to retain freshness and acidity. The new wine aged on the lees for 8 months in a neutral oak barrels, then racked to tank one month prior to bottling. Read more about the 2019 Pinot Gris.

2020 Pinot Noir Rosé

Our Estate Rosé traditionally comes from our oldest Pinot noir planting at Bethel Heights, own-rooted Wädenswil vines planted in 1977. Picked early, whole cluster pressed to avoid extraction of tannin, fermented cool in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation, and voilà – a bright, refreshing wine that captures the essence of summer, with all the aromatic complexity of Pinot noir but with the lighter body of an elegant aromatic white wine. 2017 Terrence David Pinot Noir Bjornson Vineyard

The 2017 Pinot noir from Björnson Vineyard is a much more sleek expression of Pinot noir than the lush 2016 vintage.  2017 gave us the best natural balance we have seen from a warm vintage since 2012; terrific acidity and relatively low alcohol in spite of the heat.  Wine club nor quantity discounts apply.

2019 Hope Well Pinot Noir Rose Monday's Child

Hope Well Wine is a project of Mimi Casteel, a member of the Bethel Heights Family. “Monday’s Child is fair of face, Tuesday’s Child is full of grace”

Monday’s Child and Tuesday’s Child are the first of a set of three wines made in 2019 as an exercise in prismatic infusion. Three Pinot noirs, picked at the same time, with different skin macerations, each in three vessels, striking different notes in harmony. Monday’s Child spent less than 24 hours on the skins and went to press cold. A cold and brief infusion to preserve the layers of crisp flavor and the effusive bouquet of spring flowers and berries.Read more about the 2019 Hope Well Pinot Noir Rose Monday's Child. Wine club nor quantity discounts apply.

2019 Hope Well Pinot Noir Sunday's Child

"Monday’s Child is fair of face, Tuesday’s Child is full of grace. And the child that is born on the Sabbath day is bonny and blithe and good and gay.”

The Three Children of 2019 are three Pinot noir wines made as an exercise in prismatic infusion. Born from a single lot of Pinot noir, separated into three parts before vinification, each was given a different skin maceration, striking different notes in harmony.  Sunday’s Child went through a fully traditional Pinot noir maceration, on skins until dryness, then to barrel to sleep for the next ten months.
