2011 The Wedding Wine

Our winemaker, Ben Casteel, made this wine to share with friends and family at a family wedding that took place at Bethel Heights in 2012. Two favorite barrels were selected for their ability to stand the test of time and age gracefully. After the wedding celebration, the remaining wine was stashed away to be released when the time was right.  Now is the time.

2015 Chardonnay The High Wire

96 points - The High Wire was long disparaged as the ugly duckling of the vineyard.  It stubbornly resisted all attempts to graft it over or re-train it into submission, and the ugly duckling ultimately grew into the regal long-necked swan that it was meant to be.

2015 Pinot Noir The Cauldron

Protected from the wind, basking in warmth, feasting on deep soil tipped into the pot from the rocky slopes above, the vines of The Cauldron are the pampered children of Bethel Heights. In return, they give us tender, juicy, exuberant wines.

2015 Beyond the Blocks 4-pack set

What are designated vineyard blocks but arbitrary lines in the sand, drawn for the convenience of tractors? What happens when the lines begin to blur, when other more ancient realities begin to assert themselves - layers of geologic and organic evolution, patterns of wind and sun, all running crosswise and sideways to your neat grid of lines and squares? When the vines finally discover those underlying realities, and bring them forth into wine, then it’s time to go put something new in the bottle. For Spring 2021 we are spotlighting our 2nd generation winemaker's, Ben Casteel, interpretation of terroir at Bethel Heights Vineyard.  This limited production series offers 3 Pinot noirs and 1 chardonnay.  We look forward to sharing these rarely opened wines from the 15 vintage with our friends for the rest of Spring 2021.

The Shallows:
Perched on a rocky bench with only a slight skim of soil over bedrock, vines planted in The Shallows tind their foothold deep in the interstices between basalt boulders.  Their tenacity yields wines of purity, subtlety and elegance.

The Cauldron:Protected from the wind, basking in warmth, feasting on deep soil tipped into the pot from the rocky slopes above, the vines of The Cauldron are the pampered children of Bethel Heights. In return, they give us tender, juicy, exuberant wines.

The Currents: There is a certain place on the lower west side of our vineyard where subtle fluctuations of cool and warm air currents flow through the vines.  We feel them when we walk there in the summer, as if we were stepping into the sea, and we can taste them in this wine.

The High Wire:
The High Wire was long disparaged as the ugly duckling of the vineyard.  It stubbornly resisted all attempts to graft it over or re-train it into submission, and the ugly duckling ultimately grew into the regal long-necked swan that it was meant to be. 96 Pts, The Wine Advocate (the only wine from the set submitted for review)

2017 Chardonnay Casteel

2017 is one my favorite vintages of the past decade for its natural balance, elegance, and transparency. The 2017 Casteel Chardonnay exemplifies this as much or more than any Chardonnay in our portfolio, providing both the tension our site provides so well but also the generosity of a warm vintage. This wine is showing well now but will improve with age over the next 5-7 years.
94 Points James Suckling, 94 Points Wine Enthusiast. Read more about the 2017 Casteel Chardonnay.

2017 Chardonnay Justice Vineyard

The Chardonnay from Justice Vineyard over the years has developed a haunting sea breeze, saline quality both in the aroma and on the palate that distinguishes it from every other Chardonnay in our portfolio. The wine’s freshness, purity, and unique fingerprint are framed by bright acidity and a crystalline structure, perhaps providing a window into the marine sedimentary soils where it is planted, soils that were once layers of sand on the floor of the ocean millions of years ago. 94 Points, James Suckling.  Read more about the 2017 Justice Chardonnay

2018 Pinot Gris

Pinot Gris was planted at Bethel Heights in 1993, in a small 3.3-acre block between two blocks of Pinot noir that make up the heart of our Casteel Pinot Noir – one of the most favored slopes in our vineyard. The 2018 marks the second to last vintage of Pinot Gris at Bethel Heights as we recently grafted our gris over to Pinot noir. Read more about the 2018 Pinot Gris.

2018 Pinot Noir Casteel

The Casteel Pinot Noir is a blend of the best barrels from our vineyard, selected to express the epitome of that particular vintage at Bethel Heights. This is our only Pinot noir that carries our family name rather than a place name, which gives us considerable poetic license to select our favorite barrels from each vintage. 95 Points Vinous. 2020 Pinot Noir Rose Eola-Amity Hills

The 2020 vintage was a roller-coaster ride from the very beginning. Wide swings between early season heat then cool, wet conditions leading up to and during bloom resulted in a poor fruit set with small berries and small clusters. In spite of everything, small amounts of beautiful wines could be made in 2020. Read more about the 2020 Eola Amity Hills Rosé.

2017 Terrence David Pinot Noir Bjornson Vineyard

The 2017 Pinot noir from Björnson Vineyard is a much more sleek expression of Pinot noir than the lush 2016 vintage.  2017 gave us the best natural balance we have seen from a warm vintage since 2012; terrific acidity and relatively low alcohol in spite of the heat.  Wine club nor quantity discounts apply.

2019 Hope Well Pinot Noir Rose Monday's Child

Hope Well Wine is a project of Mimi Casteel, a member of the Bethel Heights Family. “Monday’s Child is fair of face, Tuesday’s Child is full of grace”

Monday’s Child and Tuesday’s Child are the first of a set of three wines made in 2019 as an exercise in prismatic infusion. Three Pinot noirs, picked at the same time, with different skin macerations, each in three vessels, striking different notes in harmony. Monday’s Child spent less than 24 hours on the skins and went to press cold. A cold and brief infusion to preserve the layers of crisp flavor and the effusive bouquet of spring flowers and berries.Read more about the 2019 Hope Well Pinot Noir Rose Monday's Child. Wine club nor quantity discounts apply.

2019 Hope Well Pinot Noir Rose Tuesday's Child

Hope Well Wine is a project of Mimi Casteel, a member of the Bethel Heights Family.“Monday’s Child is fair of face, Tuesday’s Child is full of grace”Tuesday’s Child spent 48 hours on skins, a longer infusion, at ambient temperature (which was cool, not cold) before going to the press. At 48 hours she was a completely different child than her sister, spice and bramble in her hair. The third child yet rests, but went through a fully traditional Pinot noir maceration, on skins until dryness, and then to barrel to sleep even though her precocious sisters have already been bottled.Read more about the 2019 Hope Well Pinot Noir Rose Tuesday's Child. Wine club nor quantity discounts apply.
